"Whatever befalls the earth, befalls
the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he
is merely a strand on it. Whatever he does to the web, he does
to himself. Continue to contaminate your bed and you will one
night suffocate in your own waste."
Seattle, Chief of the Dwamish (1851)
Man, animals, fish,
plants and everything that lives will eventually die. Each living
thing consumes food and generates waste, and without bacteria, the
world would long ago have drowned in its own waste. Bacteria are
natural housekeepers that have been in the universe since life
began, working silently and diligently at the microscopic level.
These natural
housekeepers play a vital role in the normal biological cycle
converting soluble organic material into microbial cell growth,
carbon dioxide, water and inorganic elements. The inorganic
compounds are then used by plants and algae to form new cells, which
in turn become food sources for fish, animals and man. Man and
animals then discharge waste back into the system to be metabolized
once again by the microbial ecosystem, and the cycle repeats itself.
Through his
industrial, agricultural and domestic activities, man has brought
about physical, chemical and biological modifications to the
environment which have resulted in an overloading and a disruption
of this biological cycle. The rate at which we are generating waste
vastly exceeds the rate at which the microbial ecosystem can degrade it.
Biotechnology offers
the best hope for reversing this trend and restoring environmental
balance. Biotechnology can be used to create innovative and improved
waste treatment systems. It can also be used to exert a more
fundamental influence. By substituting more biotechnologies and
biodegradable products into our industrial and chemical processes we
can substantially reduce the amount of waste we produce and
alleviate many environmental problems at the source.

KAM Biotechnology Ltd.
was founded by Mr. Mongi Ferchichi in 1981 as a research and
development company.
Two areas of expertise were pursued:
Bioremediation technology and the development and commercialization
of ecologically-sound products and technologies.
Bio-remediation is the process by which living organisms are used to
decontaminate polluted systems. Though simple by definition,
bioremediation is actually very complex, requiring expertise in a
variety of areas including microbiology, biochemistry, hydrogeology,
engineering and applied chemistry.
Correctly carried out however,
biotechnology offers a cost-effective, natural and non-intrusive way to
remediate contaminated systems.
The people at KAM Biotechnology Ltd. are trained experts in all fields
of bio-remediation technology. They are able to offer a complete range
of bio-remediation services including:
- Site assessment
- Bioremediation feasibility testing
- Biological treatment of solid waste
- Biological sludge reduction
- Design of microbially-enhanced wastewater treatment systems
In addition to providing clients with bioremediation technologies and
environmental expertise, KAM Biotechnology Ltd. has developed and
manufactures a variety of ecologically-sound, biochemical cleaners,
degreasers, and non-chlorinated solvents. These products have been used
across a wide spectrum of industries as a means of minimizing
atmospheric emissions, controlling the production of waste, and ensuring
clean operations. Use of KAM products allows companies to stay
competitive while still living up to their environmental
responsibilities.
In this same vein, KAM has developed patented bio-energy production
methods providing safer alternative fuels.
KAM welcomes your inquiries about our many products and services. Please
get in touch.
